during my bachelor thesis I used glycerin to clear parasites. For this you put the parasite in one drop of EtOH, overlay it with glycerin and incubate it (36°C) for 24h. After that you transfer the parasite in waterfree glycerin and fix it (on a slide) with some paraffin. Durin this precedure the water inside the parasite is changed with gylcerin and it appears somewhat clearer.
Hi, in my thesis I used this method, after washing the worms with tap water they fixed in hot ethyl alcohol 70% with adding of some drops of glycerine for preservation of tenderness of helminthes.
To make the helminthes clearer, we put the samples in lactophenol on hot plate in the degree (35–40)co in incubator for 24hr. to give the helminthes the suitable transparency
