I believe the best bio fertilization is the use of seed treatment. If seeds are not properly stimulated it is hard to achieve optimized overall performance. In addition because the treatment field is concentrated a lot of response for minimum application amount is feasible. Finally with living materials the seed treatment can spread as the plant spreads its medium colonization.
Seed treatment is the best method of bio-fertilizer application in cereal crops except rice. Since rice is a transplanted crop, therefore seedling treatment is the best method of bio-fertilizer application in rice.
In case of biofertilizer application, the most critical issue is root colonization. To ensure better root colonizaiton:
1. Root dipping for rice seedlings
2. Seed coating for other cereals
3. In case of mixed biofertilizers, care should be taken to ensure proper coating and better colonization. It is better to dry the seed coat avoiding the direct sunlight before the use of next biofertilizer in tendem coating instead of mixed coating. Because 106-107 cfu is the expected conc.
One hundred (100) grams of cereal seeds were sanitized in accordance with the method described by Noumavo et al. (2013). The seeds were immersed in the inoculum for one hour and then coated with a 4% methyl cellulose solution and sterile activated carbon powder. The seeds thus coated were dried under a laminar flow hood for four hours at room temperature.
