I am trying to fictionalization of multi walled carbon nano tube using with a 3 : 1 (v/v) mixture of and H2SO4 and HNO3 by refluxing at 150 degree centigrade temp for 2 hr. but i get dissolve yellow colored solution what should i do to get functionalized multiwalled carbon nanotube.
You can funcationalize MWCNTS using 3 : 1 (v/v) mixture of and H2SO4 and HNO3 by refluxing at 120 degree for 4 or 8 hrs according to the degree of funcationalization and the length of nanotues you need. No problem with the yellow color may be due to dissolution of the residual catalyst used in the preparation process.

For my experience, less than 5 degree is ok, higher temperature might result in severe damage of carbon nanotubes.
daer Rouby sir, Actually, i would like to carboxlic group functionalized MWCNT from the Pristine MWCNT, after refluxing with concentrated H2SO4 and HNO3 mixture i get fully dissolve brown solution. after addition of water and then filtration i get nothing...thats my actual problem.
Really, you should check your material first by characterization tools to be shore that it is CNTs. Also, may be you used a large quantity of the concentrated acids.
yes it is Multiwalled Carbon nanotube (sigma aldrich, 773840-25 G, 98% carbon basis OD x ID x L: 10nM x 4.5 nM x 3-6 micrometer). and i used 18 M H2SO4 and 70% HNO3 solution in 3:1 ratio. 50 mg of MWCNT in 30 ml of acid mixture.
