Prof. Zhang ZQ told me that potato is one of the best media for Rhizoglyphus. I have reared Rhyzoglyphus using potato fresh tuber, however, I hate when the potato became rot and smells awful.
Thanks a lot, I will try it. But, Diaz et al., "Biology, ecology, and management of the bulb mites of the genus Rhizoglyphus (Claparede) (Acari: Acaridae)" said that mites colonization occurs faster in bulb infested with fungi especially Fusarium, that's why I never sterilize the potatoes.
For our experiments, mites were cultured in a lepidopteran media described in: Shorey, H. H., and R. L. Hale. 1965. Mass-rearing of the larvae of nine Noctuid species on a simplified medium. J. Econ. Entomol. 58: 522-524.Cultures produced good numbers of mites and lasted a fairly long time, provided they are kept in proper conditions
