For my master thesis, I am planning to search biosorption properties of two bacteria. I need to compare biosorption kinetics compared with the bacteria which has the highest copper biosorption value. Can anyone suggest species?
Nowadays there is some misunderstanding about the term biosorption when it is applied to microorganisms. So, If you look for some microorganism able to adsorb (Volesky definition of passive absorption of metals) for sure the cyanobacteria producing exopolysaccharides showed very eccelent results, for the copper biosopion. In case you can check this review : "Exopolysaccharide-producing cyanobacteria in heavy metal removal from water: molecular basis and practical applicability of the biosorption process". Inside you can find also some idea that maybe can help you for the introduction of your thesis. if you are looking for bacteria able to actively adsorb copper through metabolic pathways, my suggestion look for them in the papers related to polluted soils like this one : "Optimization of copper bioremediation by Stenotrophomonas maltophilia PD2"
However my suggestion is, do not compare your results only with the strains that in lab have shown good results but also with the strains that have shown good chances to be used in real implant.
Hello E. Sevli, .............The best copper biosorption bacteria is Thiobacillus ferrooxidans as it has more than 90% biosorption capacity for copper.
