In friction stir welding it has been seen that it is always recommended that the joint line configuration is simple square butt. Whereas, in other welding various other type of weld joint configurations are also used. I want to know the basis of selection of weld joint configuration for friction stir welding. Is it the weld joint centreline area or any other criteria is there. And if there is some criteria then what is the significance of it?
