The second phase in the matrix can increase the mechanical properties of the composite. However, the enhancement can be related to the interstice properties such as hardness and wettability.
Given the low content of CNT and graphene the mechanical properties are scarcely increased. Some enhancements are achieved concerning both electrical and thermal conductivity. The real problem is dispersing the fillers homogeneously at higher volume content with no clusters. Clusters of CNT and graphene fillers make uneffective the advantages of having high S/V (surface/volume) ratios in both CNT and graphene.
By adding these upto certain percentage increases the strength related properties. Adding more relates to nothing, waste of time and cost. Adding of optimal quantity enhances the properties.
