In general on the study of Stochastic, vibrational resonance and in the nonlinear resonance studies, unidirectionally coupled systems with first oscillator alone is driven by a periodic force, not all oscillators are driven by periodic force. Is there any scientific application is reason for this configuration or is this the simple configuration whereby one can get the expected result on resonance?

This model is used for instance in the classical analogy of Fano resonances, see ref. 10 of the paper you attached - "Classical analogy of Fano resonances", Joe, Y.S. et al. Phys. Scr. 2006, 74, 259, doi:10.1088/0031-8949/74/2/020. I think the reason this works well for the description of, e.g., Fano-type resonances in SEIRA (open access: "Plasmonic Enhancement of Vibrational Excitations in the Infrared", Neubrech, F. and Pucci, A. IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Quantum Electronics 2013, 19(3), 4600809, doi:10.1109/JSTQE.2012.2227302) is, that the plasmonic resonance (excitation 1) is due to the external electric field. The plasmonic resonance then leads to an enormous enhancement of the external field such that it is a good approximation to neglect the external field for the excitation of the molecular vibration (excitation 2) and only consider coupling via the enhanced near-field. However, this is only an intuitive answer - I have never treated this rigorously.
