The adverse effect of Fe on Al mechanical properties is completely extrinsic, i.e., if there were no bifilms in aluminum, large amounts of Fe could be retained in solution ( up to 4% reported). Moreover, there is no need for grain refining, which serves only to redistribute porosity, if we ha e clean aluminum.
