We often use 70% alcohol to dissolve plant extracts. Why it is well accepted as 70%? Does it contain some advantages over the other proportions (say 60%, 80%, or 90%) or it is just because 70% is widely accepted?
Hi, Subhashis Paul. Is everything ok with you? I guess because 70% ethanol doesn't evaporate faster than 80% and 90%. Do you extract using a rotary evaporater?
Subhashis Paul To extract you need the concentration and evaporation of the solvent be in the optimum values. At 70% high value that doesn't evaporate too much. So, if you decrease to 60% and 50% you might not extract effectively.
Probably I am unable to make you understand my question. I simply asked why 70% extraction is accepted widely.. What would be the exact reason. It is not related to my research experiments.
