Projection method of Chorin seems to be a straight forward method as compared to the fractional-step method (FSM) of Kim & Moin which deals with a pressure-like quantity rather than pressure itself. Since I don't work in the area of incompressible flow, I would like to know why does one opt for FSM? Is there a specific advantage FSM offers over projection method? Another question in relation to this, is that can the original projection method suggested by Chorin be used despite its disadvantages, if any?
