Numerous methods are available for measurement of nitrate (NO3). However, these assays can either be time-consuming or require specialized equipment (e.g., nitrate reductase, chemiluminescent detector). There are many articles about this interesting subject. For example, I've listed a few of these articles below. In one of these articles, reported a new assay for simultaneous evaluation of nitrate and nitrite concentrations that involves reduction of nitrate by vanadium (III) and detection with Griess reagents. In this report, does not require specialized equipment and is suitable for large batch analysis of minimal sample volumes in a microtiter plate format. The favorable comparison with other assays demonstrates the appropriateness of this sensitive, rapid, simple, accurate, inexpensive, a convenient method for simultaneous measurement of nitrate and nitrite in a buffer, media, and biological fluids. Another report states that a spectrophotometric procedure for the determination of nitrate in water, soil extracts, and a variety of other sample types is described using one reagent solution which is easily prepared and stored. Sample and equipment requirement s are minimal. Reduced chemical hazard, simplicity, and versatility represent improvements over existing methods.

Article Spectrophotometric Determination of Nitrate with a Single Reagent
Simple and rapid method for the measurement of of nitrite and nitrate in physiological fluids are commonly used as a index of nitric oxide production. A simple and rapid method has been developed for the determination of these anions by cappillary zone electrophoresis employing borate buffer ( pH 10, 100 mmol/l) as running electrolyte.
