If you lead some students in your team, how many can you handle at once (efficiently), if you want to have some time for other work, too?

E.g. in informatics, it is said that one "subordinate" takes you 20 % of your working time. Can we somehow compare it to science?

Lets say you have 4 undergraduates in your biology lab, each spends there cca 20 hours per week, and you have to teach them all the methods, lead the projects and supervise their thesis. How do you cope? Do you have any tips for making that process more efficient?

Thank you!
