Actually Ivo, to complete your etymology (word origins are always enlightening), in old French the word referred to an out of control horse stampeding about and running about in unpredictable, so-called 'à randon" ways, i.e. haphazardly, and the word itself came from... the English, or an equivalent English source found in the modern English word 'to run' or the German 'rennen' - the word simply meant a running horse rather than a controlled horse. A great illustration of the many historical feedback loops between English and French.

The key challenge in randomness is to differentiate between pseudo-randomness and randomness. True randomness can only be generated from a truly random seed, itself generated by a truly unpredictable, outside physical phenomenon (radioactive decay or such). Most random number generators are only pseudo-random after their first iteration, for instance.

Ivo, if you go back to the common proto-Sanskrit etymology of almost all European languages, you'll find that to 'run', or equivalently the German rennen are akin to a family of European words originally meaning to spring from, to start moving - run, rennen, raise etc., rill, random in Gmc, but also origo (origin) and rivus (river) in Latin. Word origins are endlessly fascinating .....

However, if something has no specific pattern, purpose or Objective then it also follow some unknown pattern  then its maybe undefined pattern/ Undiscovered pattern. Then how can we say that is random. 

Further can we say also "Any undefine pattern/ undiscovered pattern series/order comes under randomness.

That's a philosophica question, as it leads to the question if there is something like "true randomness" in nature. This does not lead us anywhere.

I prefer the pragmatic definition: whenever we have no idea about how to predict the next observation, then the series of observations is random. It can be that a sequence (or variable) is random for one person but not for another (like a reasercher 100 years in future having discovered a rule to predict such values).

Whatever definition of randomness, of course, it refers to lack of pattern or trend. But, to claim that it lacks predictability. Perhaps Subhash taking definition from Wikipedia, did not go through the whole article wherein under the head of Randomness versus unpredictability, it is made clear by giving example that randomness is not equivalent of unpredictability.

As regard post, in my view one should never use a random number generator algorithm as is found in GIS. It never generates an unbiased random points.Better, you use table of random number. If you want to randomly choose grid intersection give them number and use random table. It is advisable that lowest number is three digit number. However, there is no such rule if one knows how to use a table of random numbers. If you want randomly choose points within the grid cells or with inclusion of grid intersections, one random number use as x distance from origin of grid and the other as y distance to locate the point.

Of course, random numbers in all likelihood would repeat themselves, if you are taking a single number you can ignore the repeated number as takig black or white balls one can put the ball again in the bag or cannot. In the case of x-y random number you need not ignore repeated numbers if both are not have already located a point.

Maybe life is random, but I doubt it.
