In the photorecombination process or photoionization process, there is a radiation damping effect in these two processes, which can reduce the cross section of the resonant position.

I want to know what is radiation damping effect ?

For a concretely  example, in the photorecombination process of C V ion, the reaction equation can be written as follows

1s2 + e --> 1s22s + hv

and

1s2 + e --> 1s 2l 2l’ --> 1s22s + hv

Thanks very much.
