Hi, I plan to conduct a research study which will use a field observation method to investigate what takes place in classrooms in terms of collaboration. However, I do not have a clear idea about observation protocol. I would appreciate it if you could let me know what observation protocol in qualitative studies is and share examples of observation protocols in studies. Thank you in advance.

One factor to consider in doing observation is how your presence might affect the performance of the group being observed. In some cases, you can practice what is called participant observation in which you blend in with the participants and observe. If this is not possible, then this should be discussed in your data collection section of the report.
