I hear people talking about micro-teaching, but what are the components of micro-teaching. If there is micro-teaching, there must be macro-teaching and meso-teaching. I wonder why people ignore these two other teachings, and what are these other two teachings?

You asked some really interesting questions. Micro-teaching is a used to help currently-working teachers increase their teaching skills. The emphasis is on practicing and refining these skills. There is an art to any profession which develops over time. Micro-teaching helps in developing the art. In any given session there is a teacher who conducts the lesson for a small group of peers (even just one).
In response to your other question, yes- there is macro-teaching. This can involve an entire classroom of students who receive an overview or goals or requirements on the first day of class. Macro-teaching is also used in teacher in-services where the whole faculty is present.
In short, micro teaching sessions are not very long. It is used when a teacher works with a small group of students or peers. In macro teaching occurs when a teacher or supervisor works with an entire class or the entire faculty. The sessions are much longer than micro-teaching.

I agree with Steve. We use micro-teaching in a Centre for Learning and Teaching for academics' professional development. Lecturers present a very short lesson to peers and the facilitator. The session is video-recorded and the lecturer receives feedback. Micro I suppose refers to the small group size, the short length of the lesson but also to the focus of attention of all the small details involved in the teaching. Teaching is the art of facilitating learning. One can become an effective teacher by learning different techniques of teaching. Micro-teaching is one such teacher training technique which helps the teacher trainee to master the teaching skills. It is about how the teacher trainee can teach a concept in the most efficient manner, in a way that the students understand and completely perceive what is being taught, within a given period of time.

Imagine you are the chair of the curriculum at medical, dental, science or education college, what makes macro-, mess-, and micro-teaching/education?, then imagine you are course coordinator, what makes macro-, mess-, and micro-education?, then imagine you are giving three or four lectures in a course, what makes macro-, micro-, and miso-education for you? That's the way I use micro-teaching as a model for each students to play the role as a teacher before they are going to apply the faculty program of Being a teacher in schools they applied for. There is another use of the micro, meso, and macro concepts. It is used in research as well as teaching. In research, it refers to the level of inquiry and is fairly straight-forward. The micro level looks at small systems such as families, other relationships, or even one person. The meso level of research focuses on systems of medium size. This can include organizations, communities, ethnic groups, and other systems of similar size. Finally, the macro level looks at large systems like economies, countries, legal and political systems.
