We can interpret the word "dependence" in two ways. The most common is related to the physical dependence, an old concept that today is used as a synonymous of withdrawal syndrome, that is, physical signs that appears after drug use discontinuation. However, methamphetamine is a drug that cause addiction, which sometimes can be confused with dependence. Addiction is a disorder related to the use of psychoactive substances in which individual show compulsive intake and continuous use despite of adverse consequences. Thus, dependence is a term used to describe only the adaptive state related to drug withdrawal syndrome.
