The purpose of posing this question is to reveal that physicists do not know what mass is. My position is that mass could have been and should have been a defined property. To this day it remains an indefinable property. The current situation is that: All properties of Mechanics can be defined using only three fundamental indefinable properties; mass, length, and time. Mass can now be defined. The properties of Mechanics can now be defined using only two fundamental indefinable properties; length, and time. A Mechanics that has just two indefinable properties is very different from a Mechanics that has three indefinable properties. The two remaining indefinable properties are those of empirical evidence; length and time. They are permanently indefinable.

There is no marketplace for solutions to problems that do not exist. Therefore, the problem of an undefined property of mass must be understood by physicists. To facilitate this understanding, the question is raised: What is mass? It is expected that a discussion of this question will cause physicists to remember that they do not know what mass is?
