Our center was created in order to produce and propagate crops differents. And the production of minitubers of potato is one of more production in esta Lab to sell. The induction of tubers depend more the quality of vitroplants that you 'Introduced in the green house. These plantlets need to be acclimatized before planting.
These plantlets acclimatized in polyethylene trays, after at least 20 days before transplantation, will have an optimum size of 7- 9 cm in height and a good root system.
Will be decisive for not early induction of minituber, decide which hole size use in the tray. If this happens you will need to remove the minitubers young before planting in bed.
If the vitroplants go to in containers magenta straight to the greenhouse, they take at least 15 days to growing and its root system for induction of stolons will be poor, then you before need to replanting of dead plants and a good nutrition for reduced the stress.
At the begin induction of tubers (30- 40 days after trasplant), the better use a balaceada good nutrition so that the amount of water and nutrients , should be balanced only for development and growing of plants. We use our own formula daily from 7 - 45 days after planted. After this date, we strengthen with nutrition to increated the size of tubers.
It all depends on environmental conditions, the structure of the substrate and of course, each genotype has a rate minituber production.
A substrate with little aeration will bring more diseases and fewer tubers. A higher porosity, will be better to increase the number of tubers and higher quality
Other handling in the greenhouse are considered personal technologies of every producer, so always have to need standardize some things in your hydroponic conditions.

Some cultivars of potato tuberize under short day conditions, others under long day. I've seen references for both which can be confusing, but I've read and been told that a general rule that sub-species tuberosum is long day, while andigena is short day, but there also seem to be exceptions in both cases. With short day varieties, it is actually the long night that is important, as interrupting the night period with and hour of artificial light will inhibit tuber formation. My understanding is that light/dark period stimulates tuberization through a signal that decreases gibberellic acid.
Hydroponically, some groups have had success initiating tubers by varying the pH of the solution http://hortsci.ashspublications.org/content/29/6/621.full.pdf, and, though I can't find the reference at the moment, I know there has been some success stimulating tuberization through manipulating nutrients, particularly nitrogen.
The tuberization is difficult in hydroponic culture, it is very easy to produce minituber in sand substrate and termoperiod of 14-18°C night and 22-25°C day.
