I think your assesment is correct. The only problem I see is putting the two words together. I had to read your excerpt twice to understand what you were trying to say but once I did it made complete sense. I think it maybe helpful to say intellectual curiosity and creativity/. I am not sure Intellectual Curiosity leads to Creativity?

[The standard definition is bipartite: Creativity requires both originality and effectiveness. Are two criteria really necessary? Originality is undoubtedly required. It is often labeled novelty, but whatever the label, if something is not unusual, novel, or unique, it is commonplace, mundane, or conventional. It is not original, and therefore not creative. Originality is vital for creativity but is not sufficient. Ideas and products that are merely original might very well be useless. They may be unique or uncommon for good reason! Originality can be found in the word salad of a psychotic and can be produced by monkeys on word processors. A truly random process will often generate something that is merely original. So again, originality is not alone sufficient for creativity. Original things must be effective to be creative. Like originality, effectiveness takes various forms. It may take the form of (and be labeled as) usefulness, fit, or appropriateness. The Inaugural Editorial of the CRJ, which appeared nearly 25 years ago, referred to utility when describing what kind of research would be published (Runco, 1988). Creative research on creativity would be published, and the standard definition was used: ‘‘Originality is vital, but must be balanced with fit and appropriateness’’ (Runco, 1988, p. 4).

Effectiveness may take the form of value. Yet I’m offended by addIng “intellectual” to the idea of creativity. — It is, at best, a misnomer and at worst a form of cultural and academic prejudice. Both “practical” and “criteria” are the antithesis of the environment that makes creativity possible & thrive. You cannot predetermine or possibly know ahead of time where creative expression will lead.

Any person from any culture, of any age and any intellectual capacity is more than capable of creativity. - Throughout the history of mankind repeatably we find evidence of creative expression. Very often in spite of intellectual capability. To isolate and emphasize our intellectual abilities suggests the highest form of human expression is separate from what makes us fully human. That, in my opinion, diminishes what makes creative expression possible. Creativity is the essence of and present in all life forms.

The topic of this thread refers specifically to the intellectual form of creativity; therefore, the emphasis is placed on it.

While creativity and intellect are interconnected, they can also be demonstrated as distinct dimensions of the human mind. The goal of intellectual creativity should be linked to improving the world and transforming challenges into opportunities.

I've yet to read anything that specifies a separtion of creativity into intellectual vs emotional. I suggest the separation is made up, that is, making things into separate parts masks the essence of the "whole") as is the nature of many researchers -only- to study creativity. Whats being lost in this approach is both intellectual and emotional and other parts of being human contributes to creativity. ---- In the mid 1970's in the US and elsewhere there was significant conversations about the nature of creativity and the conditions that allow it to flourish vs those that inhibit. A design group named IDEO has had a big influence on generations of scientists, artists, mathematicians and others (especially teachers) on creative experiences, thinking and making. I suggest you read that for a background into creativity. --- In addition before you tell everyone what you think creativity is you should participate in it and gain real-world experience(s) in this special form of human expression.

Regarding my background in creativity: Even ten years ago, or even earlier, I wrote fantasy stories and philosophical articles, using metaphoric language and creative expression. Additionally, I have taught creativity classes, covering methods such as Creatrain and creative imagination. Not to mention my educational background, and the American Literature Club I lead, which fosters highly creative discussions.

Before advising others to gain a creative background, it would be more practical first to be creative enough to reconcile with the term intellectual creativity.

Im my experience creative work in any human endeavor, at any age, culture, gender or education is “messy". - More often your’e working on a question you can’t answer. And simultaneously asking if its the right question. Then I get results that mystify me. Besides being messy I guess. Guess what might be best next thing to try.

By stories and teachings I'm used to creativity, innovation, design thinking, problem solving proceeding in a logical manner. In our written accounts we present ideas ands concepts the same way.

Also… in my experience, a common trait among creative people is we (still) play. I return to being a 10 years old. Though a more much more serious style its still “play”.

I express play by asking, “I wonder what will happen if I try this” and “I wonder what something will look like if I try this (visual work).

Myself and many creative colleagues go through our work with another trait. We assume todays accepted truths, our “answers” are transitory. I think of this as the best we could do today. Period. Ideally conditions that allow & promote creative play creates new questions & new answers.

I'm used to looking into the work of creative people in the immediate and ancient past. Usually embarrassed with how little I know. — I believe we need to encourage the innate human sense to wonder & (literally) get out of the way.
