Any Cardiac surgeries that require support of Heart -Lung machine ,after completion of surgery , patients need to be wean off from pump .Most of centre used to give the inj. Ca gluconate during this procedure. What is ideal time to give Injection Calcium gluconate.
Usually immediately before weaning from the bypass machinery. If the heart is beating well, it doesn't need to be given routinely.

Calcium should be given when all components of the hemostasis is restored such as pH, k+, Hb, glycemia,......seeking to reach hemodynamic or coagulation by Ca++ alone should be tissue damaging
