Have you looked into Viktor Frankl's theories and personal story - the pursuit of happiness? He posits that happiness cannot be pursued, but instead is something that ensues.
This is a very interesting question because many people worry because they think their life is on a wrong way because it does'nt match with "official" standards of happiness.
In medicine, we try to assess it with quality of life, but the questionnaires are adapted mainly for sick people.
So, it could be interesting first to consider what happiness is and to tell it to the community, and it will be more balance, resilience and commitment than success, free time and "zen" experiences.
And to assess it, a questionnaire adapted to daily life of average people could be interesting.
Thanks Francois & Lisi. I am looking for personal opinion about happiness. Hope we will contribute to understand the various perspectives of happiness from different domains.
Happiness is a state of mind when you seek nothing, want nothing and you have only love and oneness with the universe,it is a state where every thing is in you and you are in everything
We designed recently a program on Happiness and my approach was based on the concept of wellbeing, equanimity and joy. My personal model of happiness is thus a mixture of concepts from the Behavioural Economics (Kahneman), Positive Psychology (Seligman) and Joy and Happiness (Dalai Lama and Desmond Tutu).
@Camelia Lia. Sustained happiness is urgency because giving special privilege like ministry of loneliness (UK), MINISTRY of happiness (Bhutan). In addition, increased focus towards spirituality, meditation and yoga shows the increased tension of individuals.
I am looking happiness as a benchmark to modify the definition of sustainability with 3Cs.
Community (social/people), conservation (environment/planet) and convenience (economic/profit).
"Living is like being chained at the bottom of a shallow pond with my eyes open and no air. I can see distorted images of happiness and light, even hear muffled laughter, but everything is out of my reach as I lie in suffocating agony. If death is the opposite of living, then I hope death is like floating."

If happiness is defined as a mood, then self-reports are all there is. Feeling happy is what we mean by being happy, so happiness is defined subjectively. ... In the same way, there are things that make you feel happy but may lead to a state of unhappiness. Happiness, true happiness, is an inner quality. It is a state of mind. Happiness might seem like a straightforward emotion, but dig deeper and things soon get complicated. For a start, there is more than one way to think about “happiness”, and no certainty about how best to measure it. Some studies focus on how happy someone is in the moment, while others measure how satisfied people are with their lives. The two are not the same.
Many different positive emotions such as awe, hope and gratitude give rise to a feeling of happiness, but it isn’t clear why these emotions evolved in the first place...
The degree of "happiness" of a person at a time can be understood by examining the natural signatures of the normal behaviour of the person at that particular time relative to those observed in the past.

The universal life could be happier and healthier than its present form if only the positive cosmic forces were excited to operate creatively leaving the corresponding negative counterparts far behind
Happiness is defined differently depending on who you ask. Some people define happiness as a positive emotional experience. Others define happiness as having two parts called hedonia (pleasure) and eudaimonia (thriving). Outside of the scientific world, most of us define happiness as a mixture of positive emotional experience and a deeper sense of meaning and purpose in life.
