What is the concept of equivalent rectangle?? In EM wave propagation, there are number of models have been proposed in which the equivalent rectangle term is used.. I would like to know how one can convert the rectangle into equivalent rectangle? For e.g if a road tunnel is having the actual width of 5 mtr and height of 6 mtr, what would be the converted dimension for the equivalent rectangle?

Equivalent to the cross section of the waveguide depends on the design of the walls, their materials and the wavelength of the radio waves. There is no universal solution. Each case requires individual consideration, if you need to obtain a solution close to reality.

Thank you for adding answer to the above query. Yes i do agree that wave guide model is based on the electrical parameters and the conductivity of the walls. However, if someone is considering rectangle tunnel as a equivalent tunnel then what should be the conversion formula. It is bit complex to understand from the work published in the field of EM wave propagation how the authors have converted the rectangular tunnel dimension into the equivalent dimension in the formulas to predict the electric field and attenuation. As you have mentioned that each case required individual consideration, Would you please share some hint on my mentioned dimension of the road tunnel having length say 500mtr and the relative permittivity of side walls and horizontal wall is 10?
