Energy is the predominantly essential of today's human needs such as generation of electricity, transportation, production, accommodation, communication, etc.

Energy is often defined as "the ability to do work". But this is not an all-encompassing definition. Not all energy has the ability to do work. By the Second Law of Thermodynamics, only energy at DISEQUILIBRIUM --- exergy or free energy --- has the ability to do work. (Even if any challenges to the Second Law are borne out, it is still true that only energy at DISEQUILIBRIUM --- exergy or free energy --- has the ability to do work. Any such challenges, if borne out, entail spontaneous disequilibration.) Probably an all-encompassing definition is that a system's energy is its inertia --- its resistance to acceleration --- times c^2, where c is the speed of light in vacuum. Its resistance to acceleration or mass can be divided into (its rest-mass energy divided by c^2) + (its kinetic energy divided by c^2). If a system consists of two or more elementary particles bound together, then the binding (potential) energy (which would be required to dissociate the system) is an additional, negative, contribution to the energy, and hence an additional, negative, contribution [minus (potential energy)/c^2] to its mass, usually construed as incorporated within the rest mass. Of course the energy of zero-rest-mass elementary particles such as photons is entirely kinetic. Kinetic energy of course depends on reference frame. The closest thing that exists to an absolute rest frame is the comoving frame, wherein the cosmic background radiation is isotropic. So kinetic energies should be measured relative to the comoving frame.
When we harness the Energy, the important point is we need to consider its impacts to the Environment.

I think the Theory Of Everything (TOE) should be called more appropriately, the Theory Of Energy (TOE).
