Marketing and advertising are related but different concepts:
Marketing is the overall process of identifying, creating, communicating, and delivering value to all the customers. It includes market research, branding, pricing, distribution, customer relationship management, and more. Marketing is a long-term strategy aimed at building a strong brand and customer base.
Advertising is a subset of marketing that focuses on promoting a product or service through paid channels such as TV, social media, print, or online ads etc. It is one of the many tools used in marketing to attract customers.
In short, advertising is a part of marketing and is specifically about spreading the word, while marketing covers a broader range of activities to create and maintain demand.
While both "advertising" and "marketing" are used interchangeably sometimes, in the context of AI tools, "advertising" refers to the specific act of creating and delivering paid messages to promote a product or service, while "marketing" encompasses a broader strategy that includes market research, customer analysis, and developing overall communication plans, where AI tools can be used to optimize various aspects of this strategy, not just ad creation alone; essentially, AI advertising tools focus on refining ad campaigns, while AI marketing tools analyze data to inform broader marketing decisions across different channels
The science of marketing frequently just referred to as 'marketing' is the use of scientific methods to understand and influence customers' both individual and collective behaviour on markets. Whereas, advertising is the application of marketing science to promote a particular good or service to a target customer base. Purported advertising without the use of marketing science is termed 'wasting money'.
