I would like to get documents that explore the theoretical breadth of design-based research in education. Can I get papers that demonstrate it in a practical way? Recently published materials would be much appreciated.
As I understand it, DBR in education is a kind of action research. The researcher works together with teachers and/or instructional designers, identifies concrete problems or improvment areas, proposes a design, intervention or implementation and then changes his tole to that of a researcher in collecting and analyzing data. In this both quantitative and qualitative methods can be used and mixed. The result is then the basis of next design, and next and next in iterations, each followed by data collection and analysis until the problem is solved.
Compared to just make an intervention and research on that once and then publish and leave it, DBR is arguably a more responsible method, ehich follows the teaching/learning situation in a longer perspective.
Problems can be that in formal education, courses are given by a teacher once a year or more seldom; courses, programmes, teachers and students changes as well, etc. This makes iterations difficult. My DBR projects so far has ended up in case or intervention studies...
Check this fact sheet about DBR from Educause Learning Initiative https://library.educause.edu/~/media/Files/Library/2012/8/ELI7087-pdf.pdf and this paper: Wang and Hannafin (2005) Design-Based Research and Technology-Enhanced Learning Environments.
As I see, Is a research that uses modern teaching tools and methods to suit the classes and conditions of students studying to achieve positive results
