Contingency leadership says that "one size doesn't fit all". One theory for leading people doesn't suit all situations.
So the leadership style you choose is contingent on the people who you need to lead, the organizational structure and resources, the goal you want to achieve and so many other factors that interact to achieve the organizational goals.
Contingency approach to management (not only to leadership as a part of management) says that there is no best approach to ALL cases. You should analyze the situation (e.g. internal and eternal environment) for the organization and only then hve to choose an appropriate method.
In case of leadership it means e.g. that you can use your charisma with one subordinate, but it will not work with another one
Tasnuva, although contingency theory does not limit itself only to leadership and the effectiveness of leadership styles but considers both internal and external contexts in which resources are used, there has been increasing recognition of the applicability of these aspects in Management in general. Therefore, it is fundamental that researchers who intend to make use of contingency theory also recognise the potential impact that a leader's personality type, the way they make use of available human and material resources could potentially determine the effectiveness or otherwise of their actions and behaviours. However, these aspects are also primarily influenced or 'contingent' on an evolving and dynamic internal and external sets of circumstances. In sum, flexibility of styles is crucial in resolving the challenges posed to organisational survival and sustainability especially by the external contexts within which organisations operate. The contingency theory of leadership supposes that a leader's effectiveness is contingent on whether or not their leadership style suits a particular situation. According to this theory, an individual can be an effective leader in one circumstance and an ineffective leader in another one.
