For microwave and mmWaves, we can use dielectric lenses for focusing the electromagnetic signal, similar to the optical light. However for lower frequencies you may refer to "Ring-Shaped Antenna Directors" which is basically exploiting the Fresnel zones concept, by blocking some of the zones using metallic rings, the "unblocked" zones combine in a constrictive manner and increase the directivity of the receiver.
