Is there is a holistic measure for assessing success in academia?  It appears that in some institutions it is measured by the amount of reserach based income and ability to attract external reserch funding.  In others it appears to be the academic output measured by the number of published papers in cited in important academic databases or in journals with impact factor.  In some other appears to be external recognition through national teaching or research awards, other national academic or professional recognition.  However, all of the above appears to focus only on one or at best on few aspects of an academic's opus of works.  How you ensure that all aspects are taken into consideration and if so are there are any examples to share with others?  Thanks!
