The slab breakoff process really intrigues me, I can't understand what exactly happens to the broken part.. Well, I know that it helps with the magmatic activity, but how can that part of the earth at that level stays stabilized to some extent when we r talking abt smth huge as a part of the slab breaking off and added to where it doesn't belong?
If this really happens, thermal perturbation, magmatic activity, uprising and erosion of the collisional belt and extensional tectonics are expected.

As far as I understood, gravity pulls the subducting, cool slab, until it breaks and the subducting frontal part sinks in the mantle/asthenosphere inducing circulation in mantle and magmatism of more or less fractionated mantle material.

In y case, I'm dealing with two different processes that are related to a particular Geological context (Gibraltar arc). As a matter of fact, the slab breakoff happened after rolling back, which has resulted different types of magmatic rocks with different compositions.
Do you have a clue about those two processes?

I just had on my 70y birthday dissertation considering deep crust/ upper mantle fractionates (https://www.researchgate.net/publication/329539286_Adakitic_plutonic_rocks_in_the_Finnish_Precambrian_Evolution_and_areal_chemical_physical_and_age_variations). Perhaps you can get from that and my other ResGate papers ideas of what to consider in subd related magma characteristics. Especially, when thinking about the 'gate' for mantle magmas which opens when slab breaks. + what happens to sinking frontal part of slab when breakoff. Good Luck. TapioR
