I got a bottle of Trichloroacetic acid, ACS reagent (>99%) from another lab. The TCA is brownish in color, while the TCA I used before is transparent (like normal acids or water). Is there something wrong with the TCA?
Dear all, the change in color is more presumably attributed to a decarboxylation degradation enhanced by the type of the halogen. Please check the attached files. My Regards
The yellow-brown coloring is an indication that your product is contaminated. Inappropriate storage of the product can also lead to its deterioration. Over time, products of decomposition, oxidation or resulting from the reactivity of the compound may appear, depending on the stability and the method of storage or use. In addition to the intrinsic characteristics of the product, these phenomena are dependent on external factors such as temperature, light, humidity, contamination and repeated contact with air.
