I have my students generate their own case studies from their personal experiences to describe how graduate school differs from undergraduate. Each student writes a 750 word account, and I consolidate those into a word processing file that I forward to each of them.

I have used news papers, comic books, song lyrics, and other similar martial in the past. You may also want to consider, ICPSR (http://www.icpsr.umich.edu/icpsrweb/index.jsp), they have some qualitative data that can be downloaded.

Thanks Ben! The ICPSR is a good idea! I'l try to find there a few simple enough, rich enough, pedagogical enough cases. The problem with cases for education is always that one: simplicity, richness, and pedagogical value.

We use past AMBS and other external Qualitative PhD theses(~4) where student groups go through each chapter with relevant lectures. When Data Analysis is discussed the class debates and suggests how to improve it with new perspectives, techniques and software. The class size this academic year was 20.

What I like to do is to dissect The Economist's video clips on LinkedIn for a topic I'm interested in, many are already transcripted. Doing this allows one to compare the text with the images and then select code and seek out the symbolism in the images.
