What fuel will transport ships be powered by in the future that will be an important part of green, zero-emission transport and an important factor in a sustainable, green economy?
Will sailing ships make a comeback? There are already sailing ships being built that are also powered by electricity from photovoltaic panels. Will transport ships under green transport technology also be powered by electricity from photovoltaic panels? But will nuclear or engine-based technologies powered by burning hydrogen in oxygen become dominant?

I believe photovoltaic panels because not all nations (example Italy) have nuclear plants
It very much depends on the distance a vessel has to sail and the desired autonomy. For short distances batteries can do the trick. If you want to sail for a couple days you can consider hydrogen. Finally if you want to sail for weeks, you can consider amonia or methanol. Obviously for charging the batteries, making the hydrogen, amonia, and methanol you will need energy. In an ideal world this will be done with sustainable energy sources such as wind farms, solar parks.
As of now batteries are out of question for the Cargo ships trading globally ( approx. consuming 50 -150 Mt per day of Heavy Fuel).
Currently in building there is Methanol powered ships, which come closer to zero Carbon emissions. For the Marine engines the future fuels will be Ammonia & Hydrogen with technology to make them safe & viable in developments.
