Normally use no more than 5-7% of nominal yield strength. Also make sure the grips do not bite into the samples and create cracks or damage.

its depends on your type of grip, which you are using. in this case it is better to use wedge action grip. because it will apply pressure according to load and pressure increases with the load. if you are using hydraulic grip than 2000-3000 psi pressure is enough to grip the specimen.
