I want to get an AFM/STM with subnanometric scale resolution, but curious if it can give me more capability for research purpose. What kind of additional features/attachments are used to investigate functional properties of nanomaterials, photocatalytic coatings, shape memory alloys and piezoelectric films?
You can e.g. do force measurements (attach something to the tip and then map the interaction between the sample and whatever is on the tip) so you basically measure surface chemistry related properties reviewed in:

or measure some mechanical properties as stiffness or friction of samples .e.g. in

If you have MFM you can measure magnetic properties.
