The Biological Yield (BY) is the total amount of dry matter accumulation in a plant. It accounts for the totality of the plant , including the roots. The greater amount of dry matter accumulated results in a greater biological yield which in-turn is directly related to a greater amount of food produced.Normally, the dry matter of a crop is directly affected by the Net Photosynthesis (The difference between Total photosynthesis and Total respiration) is directly related to the dry matter content of a crop. The greater the difference between total photosynthesis and total respiration; the greater will be the amount of dry matter accumulated in the crop.
