I want to do some small VLC experiments, what LED product do you suggest to be used for the transmitter? Are AC bulbs better over DC bulbs? What model/brand should it be? What is the minimum amount of Lumens and Color Temperature that it should support? I believe the LED should also support fair and fast On-Off Keying (OOK) without fading/dimming.
I am planning to control the LEDs with a small microcontroller. Assuming that breadboards, wires and power supplies are prepared, which solution is the best with minimum amount of soldering and circuitry?
Any other equipment needed?

Assuming that the transmitter and the receiver are not in direct Line of Sight (LOS) of each other, are LUXEON LEDs powerful (bright) enough to improve the signal to noise ratio (SNR)? What features of LEDs can affect this characteristic? Is it Lumens or Temperature?
Actually, SNR depends on the emitted power, the transmission distance, and so on. Though I did not try to conduct the non-LOS experiment myself, I believe the UXEON LEDs are powerful (bright) enough when the distance is not too long.
"Lumens" is main feature that determines the power of the light, so you can select the LEDs with higher "Lumens" to improve the signal to noise ratio (SNR) for a given transmission distance.
