Is there a reason prefabricated building systems have taken so long to break into the Australian construction markets compared to the rest of the world?
What are the pros and cons for Australia to encounter with these systems?
Prefab buildings have been a great success in middle east, where the construction is blooming. Quick and clean construction. Most of the high rises are prefab now and bridges too.
From my point of view, prefab system requires multi-trade design models with full info and specs of building elements, so suppliers and manufacturers would be able to prepare building modules off the construction site. This aspect can be easily covered by BIM methodology, which is still new to the Australian AEC industry. So, prefab system improves as long as BIM improves.

grollo is prefabbing residential units for its latest Melbourne tower at an onsite facility and lifting them into place in the substructure. the substructure isn t pre fab though
