at chapter 7.2.

In general:

- consider the soil stratigraphy

- consider the progressive amount of parameters reduction

- if present, have a look also to shear zones affected by plasticity in the model

or

- the displacement associated with the calculated safety factors

or

- the shear strain associated with the calculated safety factors

- the extent of collapsing area referred to the scale of the slope

- compare, if available, with another solution code.

Please check if parameters are taken properly in PLAXIS. For soils, usually a factor of safety ranges from 2 to 3.

Actually, it depends on the surcharge load affects the sheet pile. So it can be actually less than unity but in my opinion, if the factor of safety is less than unity it means of fail but the model doesn't collapse or fail.

It may be that it is failing very locally in some small region.

The factor of safety depends on bearing capacity and settlement requirements which failure may be happened in one of these.

1. In the "Plaxis" program, the stability coefficient cannot in principle be less than one.

2. So check:

2.1. Is the program working correctly.

2.2. Have you entered your data correctly?
