Demand Side Management is one of the key tools in smart grids. It is aimed to control and manipulate of the demand by DSM. Demand response programs in DSM provide an option to control and manage the demands via incentives or electricity price. Which performance indices are used in DSM and demand response programs in order to manage the demand? Also, which performance indices are used in DSM in order to evaluate the effectiveness of the DSM?

Many utilities provide demand response (demand management) programs in which energy users may enroll and earn money back for lowering their energy usage at the utility's request during peak periods of demand and under-supply.
DMS incorporates a larger idea of energy demand management, whereas DR focuses on electric demand — for the time being. DMS strives for a balance of energy demand and supply on the part of utilities, system operators, and consumers.
DSM may be generically classified into four groups. The four most successful strategies for demand side management and demand response are energy efficiency (EE), demand response (DE), spinning reserve (SR), and virtual power plants (VPP).
The purpose of demand-side management is often to encourage consumers to use less energy during peak hours, or to shift energy consumption to off-peak periods such as nights and weekends.

Recep Cakmak metrics or indices of DSM depend on the purpose of it use. As it majorly focus on reducing energy consumption it could be related to ratio of demand energy and served energy if one implements it during critical energy period. Or ratio of required energy reduction to actual energy reduction or even cost reduction
