While taking chronoamperometry measurement (FOR OER), I found that the plot of Current(I) vs square root of time (t^1/2) yields a straight line. What does it mean?
Suvankar Deka a linear relationship between current and the inverse of the square root of time indicates that the charge transfer reaction is diffusion controlled. Furthermore, when the linear relationship is fulfilled, it is an indication that the electrochemical reaction mechanism may be simple, when coupled reactions exist, for example an ECE mechanism, no linear relationship is observed at planar and spherical electrodes.
Javier Ernesto Vilaso Cadre Actually I want to calculate the diffusion coefficient. But the slope obtained from Cottrell plot is very less. What does it infer? Can we say that multiple reactions are going on simultaneously.
In our case, we are using planar working electrode.
