I just found out about this product 10 min ago. I am just wondering has anybody, seen, tried, used one? Any feedback? Good/bad, knowing that I am an Organic Chemist, this would be a great analytical tool I guess.
Dear Laurent, if you plan to characterize a molecule using this instrument the resolution is quite low, however if you need it as quality control or to check if you reaction is working is good enough. I am also organic chemist and for example for small molecules will be fine however if you have complex structures or crude reaction the signals can be very broad.
I am interested to hear how you stumbled across this instrument as it is really new in Oz. Having worked with NMR for over 12 years it certainly has been interesting to be introduced to the 45MHz Picospin.
As Amador correctly notes, it is not intended to replace high field instruments but to be a complimentary tool for routine analysis of small molecules and simple mixtures. It has already found a home within tertiary education for use in undergraduate laboratories.
As this is a flow instrument, the requirement is that your sample is either a liquid or can be made up with regular NMR solvents to 50uL of 1M concentration. This is actually a really tiny amount of sample considering the tiny volume required.
I'll also mention that no liquid cryogens are needed and that maintenance is incredibly easy. Shimming once every few days (not once per sample!) is all that is required.
