Whatever its form suicide has become commonplace in our society. It affects all social classes and all ages. During the last two decades, it has become widespread in both rich and poor countries and whatever their religion. Many specialists (Medical Sciences, psychologists, sociologists, theologians) have studied this phenomenon are yet contain it failing to decrease.
Being a biology teacher, I value LIFE, physical and spiritual life. Most of the time, people desire to live well. But I have met several people who think that death is better than life when they have extreme suffering. I cannot judge them, but I try to remind them that their death is a loss to their loved ones. Being from a poor family, I learned that having faith and PATIENCE is the right defense to pain and suffering. There are several questions on suicide on RG; I attach just one.

Despair and suffering are a lot of factors that can force a person to commit suicide
Psychological week persons and having suicidal tendencies are more prone to think and commit suicide.

My question is very sensitive. I think the suicide away from any other connotati phenomenon is gaining momentum that is why I wanted to have the views of people from all walks

Certainly that despair is one of the factors of suicide but hope remains a factor of life. And those are some religions the preservation of life is necessarily important suicide is a sin.
The levying we live in modern society leads us to have a lot of expectations, if not matched in a period of time that we ourselves infer leaves us anxious and unhappy. In many cases the ability to assimilate frustration, personal pride and psychological issues lead the person to stress the point that the burden of expectations turns into anguish and unhappiness, which can lead a person to commit suicide in different ways.
@Rodrigo
Yes indeed it is a fact that is unique to every country. Do not you think that there is a certain cowardice to fight against the various problems of life. I think a great quote from a great French poet Victor Hugo who said: "Those who fight are those who live "
I'm 100% against it. Suicide is about wanting our pain to end, and not being able to see any other way out. It is the wrong solution.
Self inflicted death, disturbs others more after its occurance
Lost hope for life and see end of life is the solution --- may one of the reason for committing suicide.
It is a terrible thing that people should not ever commit. Do not mean to be patronizing, but the suicidal people are, in my opinion, very sick, very vain and/or very coward. Every one has diifficult moments in life, losses and failures but this is just part of growing up and becoming stronger and wiser...
@ Mohamed
@ Krishnan
@Subhash
Totally agree with you .I think this act is a weakness. Unfortunately, we're only findings. None of us holds the truth. That's why I've asked this question so that all specialists in synergy examines this phenomenon that has no religion or country status
Dear Fadel
This is a very sensitive subject, indeed!
Life is for living but human mind is very complex and perplexing. There is a thin line between self-respect and ego. In India I see a tendency among students to commit suicide for trivial reasons like scolding by parents or teachers for failing in examinations. Their ego got hurt!!
Suicides by terminally ill people unable to bear the pain or no hope of any progress is despair and frustration.
Suicides by home maker due to domestic differences with husband or torture/violence by husband and his family are due to poverty and helplessness, lack of courage to face the situations, timidness, feelings of shame and low self-esteem to approach parents are the main causes. Suicides of revenge against husband are rare but not uncommon.
Suicide by young love birds are due to denial of their love by parents/relatives and society. This happens mostly in inter-caste or inter-religion marriages. This is due to despair, weak minds to face society, lack of financial support as they are young and unemployed (can not wait until at least one person is employed for fear of parents getting them married to some one else).
Suicide by young brides is solely due to financial problems and parents inability to bear marriage expenses (dowry etc.). Suicides by aged unmarried ladies are due to frustration and disgust, sexual starvation and fear of the society, pregnancy etc. In these cases lack of confidence, low self-esteem are the main reasons.
Suicides by criminals (latest being one of the rapists in the famous Delhi rape case) is out of guilt and fear of societal persecution.
Against these odds, let me add a few positive examples:
My grand mother died at the age of 97 and she wanted to live and do many things. She was not bored on a single day. Even at advanced age she showed enthusiasm of a small child and celebrated all festivals with religious fervor. So was my great grand mother. I see the same enthusiasm for life, enjoyment and for living long in my 90+ relatives, while 60+ talk about boredom, lack of goals in life, lack of enthusiasm etc. signs of mental fatigue, weakness and instability.
Whatever may be the reasons they are mental aberrations. People with suicide tendencies should be recognized at early stages by relatives and friends; continuously counselled, cajoled, cared and loved so that they are made to convince themselves that life is beautiful and should be lived in full.
In India all prayers end with "Peace and Happiness to every one"
@ Rajeswara
I appreciated your response when you make out the sensibilté such a subject. Thank you for the example of your great mother 97 years old and wanted to continer the way. All the answers to our dear friends RG converge through observations. As I said before no one holds the key to stem failing reduce this phenomenon certainly has multiple causes. I personally think that this phenomenon requires multiple and coordinated actions of all specialists including policy.
@ Fidan
I totally agree with you about the causes. What are the possible solutions to fight against this phenomenon.
@ Thank you Saeed
This is a subject that hold my heart because I believe that we are all responsible

Thank you for your light on the issue. And I totally agree with your experience as a nurse. We are not here to judge suicidal people. If they arrived at this point is that initially no one rescued them before entering the delirium of suicide. Basically, we all have some responsibility in this respect suicidal people. Thank you for the additional information that I will see later at leisure.
Dear Professor:
Suicide is linked to various mental disorders, and hormonal interactions, but there is a genetic predisposition (FKBP5 gen), which along with various factors increase the possibility of the act commit.
An example:
Ernest Hemingway, his father and grandfather. The three committed suicide. The three probably had a genetic predisposition. All three had depression. All three had experience of war. In total, seven family members have committed suicide.
"It is the last apoptosis".

Life is to be lived not to be killed. In any case no one has the eternity, the final term should arrives sooner or later, so one should takes his/her responsibilities of his life and beyond his/her life till its ends. Some suffering could be unsupportable, but with hopes and spiritual thinking of the sense of the life and its challenges, may be this could decrease the suffering (in any case we couldn't judge the suffering of others). In the case of extreme mental disorder, this couldn't be saved, but in some minor brain disease, there is path to drugs and to spiritual and social life.
However suicide is a killing of the life (a self murder), and murder is a criminal act. So people who think to commit suicide, should think if they are able to be criminals.
Committing suicide is a terrible crime against humanity & not only one's self. The reasons, that stir a person to end his/her life, are not so worthy. Whatever the torture (which comes from any worldly event) is, there is no eternity in it… it is always temporary. A wise man/woman does not become depressed and will not have continuous sorrow & grief by intermittent or discontinuous misfortunes. Reason, time, and patience can heal all the wounds.
I believe that God has created the human beings & constructed their bodies & souls. He did not give anyone the authority to pull this construction down so the one who commits suicide is confronting God with a flagrant aggression that cannot be excused.
Oh, my God. I think that it is one of the most terrible phenomena which is growing. I think that it may be due to the weakness of faith. The spread of Frustrations may be a reason and the multimedia play an important role
Totally agree with you and Nizar , Fairouz. All the prophets that Hi be upon Them say thou shalt not kill, and also the one who kills a person is like he killed humanity, and whoever saves a person if as if he saved humanity

Totally agree with you. Everyone is responsible for suicide.Les parents, schools, places of worship, in short political society. I pity the suicidal person as she arrived at a stage where no one can do anything for her. The action of the whole society should be preventive before it's too late.
I think an answer or a review of this topic is really difficult and we risk falling into the banal rhetoric. Also I have known people who have committed suicide at the beginning and also I have a little 'misjudged, but, over time, I realized that it is almost impossible to understand the reasons, I guess lacerating, that push a person to make such a gesture, especially if you "rooting" for life.
It is difficult to ascertain the many different reasons for suicide because each person's reasons are only best known to him/her. Our understanding of the reasons are limited by our limited understanding of the context in which it happened and the intensity to which it affected the affected person. Generally speaking, suicides are associated with perceived lack of control over one's situations, extreme desperation and inability to find solutions. Some ways to prevent suicides may lie in developing better support groups, cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness training, early detection of red flags, and most importantly, building a culture of empathy and inclusiveness. It has been well researched that perceived feelings of social isolation trigger similar neural responses in the pain receptors of the brain. Thus, the first and foremost solution we should propose is to extend our culture of compassion. That, on its own, can solve many problems and can even prevent them from becoming problems in the first place.

I totally agree with you on the fact suicidal people. I think when you have a guardrail things would have been different for those people who commit suicide. Dear @Fadel, I'm a Christian and suicide is not justified under any circumstances!
Dear @Fadel, Ljubomir and all; we cannot leave the question as it is without adding how we can prevent suicides if we have opportunity to do so. Suicidal people really need help, they may not want to die, just to stop hurting. Please read this link:
'The World Health Organization estimates that approximately 1 million people die each year from suicide. What drives so many individuals to take their own lives? To those not in the grips of suicidal depression and despair, it's difficult to understand what drives so many individuals to take their own lives. But a suicidal person is in so much pain that he or she can see no other option.'

Dear: All
I suggest that it happened to a person who suffers from a major depressive episode must either have a depressed mood or a loss of interest or pleasure in daily activities consistently for at least a 2 week period. This mood must represent a change from the person’s normal mood; social, occupational, educational or other important functioning must also be negatively impaired by the change in mood. (Staff, 2013)
Suicide is the condition of somebody who can not find the way to reduce their pain or even find the way to increase their coping resources. The best coping resource we can give you is another human being to talk with. If you find someone who wants to listen, and tell them how you are feeling and how you got to this point, you will have increased your coping resources by one (Quinnett, 2013)
@ Hengky
Thank you for your reply and I totally agree with you. I'm not here to judge suicidal men whatever the cause against by the people we deem suicidal, which organize their suicide munitie by practicing with them innocent is no longer for me but the suicide terrorism

@ Lawrence
Thank you Dr Lawrence these many new clarifications that you bring. That said the question I ask myself how not only a suicidal man hides his intentions premeditate but if we refer to the statements of his ex girlfriend where he says "I will change things at the institutional level and everyone will talk about soon i ". I still like to renew my thanks and friendships.
Life has its ups and its downs. When people are at up they are happy, and when something worst happens they are suffering from depressive states. I think that people should have a meaning for their lives, and should look to who are in more difficult conditions and who daily struggle for surviving out-of depressive state or suicidal thinking. Outside brain disease, who thinks to suicide has a weakest personality. Generally some of them are addicted to alcohol or drogues.
Dear @Fairouz,I share your opinion about weakness of personality is related to suicide. But, there are some other opinion about. They are major!
The ongoing debate on question Are people who commit suicide considered "weak"? brings the following results: 22% Say Yes while 78% Say No!
http://www.debate.org/opinions/are-people-who-commit-suicide-considered-weak
Dear Cecilia
I totally agree with what you say. But let me just say that if someone premeditate an action to commit suicide by killing innocent people it is called terrorism. We do not make themselves known or to be heard by terror.
The destruction of a soul is suicide....it can be mental n physical both
Dear @Fadel..You are welcome.......... it is a pity peoples down there........ unpredictable.!
Oh, Dear @Ceciulia..........How pity the peoples are
Ending their own life by themselves - It is a great job - but whatever is the consequences, they can't see it
There is a proverb in my language "Idhuvum Kadandhu Pogum" - it means "This too shall pass"
If the person is capable enough to recall the above while thinking about committing suicide, those person is able to live for long (and may make others to commit suicide)
@ Cecilia
@Hengky
@ Dr Murugesan
I subscribed to your answers and I want to thank you. Any action suicide of his own person is highly questionable as the religious, cultural, sociological and scientific approach (medical, psychological, psychiatric and others). But on the matter of the co-pilot of the Germanwings company, it is a premeditated act, meticulously prepared to scream his pain or be known as he had told his friend Maria. It is not only suicide but is responsible for heinous crime of all passengers who were on the plane.

Understanding Suicidal Thinking
The most important thing to remember about suicidal thoughts is that they are symptoms of a treatable illness associated with fluctuations in the body's and brain's chemistry. They are not character flaws or signs of personal weakness, nor are they conditions that will just go away on their own may cause symptoms such as the following:
http://www.dbsalliance.org/site/PageServer?pagename=urgent_crisis_suicide_prevention
@Dear Ljubomir and all, yes, Easter is indeed resurrection from the dead.
Recently, at church we lost a dear friend who was fighting with pancreatic cancer. Despite the pain, she bore up well, told us not to grieve excessively, and passed away naturally.
Another person who had terminal cancer was my friend's mum. She expressed on 2 occasions that it was preferable to die than bear the pain. But she didn't commit suicide although the pain was great for the last 2 years of her life. By the grace of God, these ladies had real courage and perseverance.
Dear Fadel,
The cumulative impact of bullying on persistent victimes relative to those who have been bullied less frequently is reported in higher rates of risk behavior , including suicide.
Some studies shows that certain demographic characteristics predicted victimization and that symptoms of emotional and behavioral maladjustment were better undestood as a consequence of being bullied rather than a contribution factor.
Tha when someone commits suicide is important to investigate whether the cause was bullying.
A version of bullying is defined as the use of one's strenght or popularity to injure, threaten, or ambarrass another person. Bullying can be physical, verbal or social.
Physical bullying was defined as repeatedly hitting, kicking or shoving someone weaker on purpose.
verbal bullying was defined as repeatedly teasing, putting down or insulting someone on purpose.
Social bullying was defined as getting others repeatedly to ignore or leave someone out on purpose.

Weak economic position and circumstances, sometimes, force one to commit suicide.
In last few days, complete destruction of crops of agriculturists due to untimely heavy rains and thunder/hailstorms in North India forces the agriculturists to commit suicide. This is the peak harvesting season in North India.
Dear Subhash
One can understand the distress of farmers who have this resource but life is hope

What you say is true. The prevention center can not in any moment in time to prevent a suicidal action
Dear @Fadel and all, do you think that we are all hotly discussing this issue of suicide because humans are now living longer lives, and may live past their years of good health and independence? Or perhaps because this adult generation may not be able to expect children to care for them in their old age? I took care of my dad and aunt when they were old, and I learned many lessons in patience. It was a physically exhausting experience, and my health almost cracked, even though I had an Indonesian helper.
Now, some of my church friends visit a friend who was paralyzed down from waist, due to an accident at work. He wrote a book 'BEYOND LIFE'S IMPERFECTIONS', about his life and experiences.
@ Miranda

I totally agree with your opinion. Patience is the key to hope therefore of life
Dear all,
Suicide is when we can not cope with reality and we think that nobody cares about our existance as a person.
It exist because we usually forgett to look inside the others, we forgett to see what exist behond us...perhaps becasuse we are not perfect and in some way a little be selfish.
It takes our time to help others and time is seen as money.
Usually we give more weight to money than to the needs of people...that is whay I think suicide exist.
We have to blame ourselves because of that...
In a world wher people would pay more attention to others, would care more about others, and when money will be used to help not only us but the one who need it, perhaps suidice will stop because we all feel beiing loved.
Helena
Unbearable adverse circumstances, may be any type, force people to commit suicide!
@ Helena
@ Subhash
@ Markovic
It seems to me that life multifaceted. Happy is he who knows how to overcome the obstacles for thus all philosophy of life. Suicide was to end his own life and this is a way to kill the loved ones around us. It is for this reason that suicide is not a heroic act. Why accept to live when things go well and why end her life when things go wrong. I think when the weakness of a man reaches climax he ended his days nothing but weakness.
Dear Fadel,
Thank you for your answer, but in a certain way I do not agree with you because I think that we need to be strong but without any hope to make suicide.
There is a song that speaks about love...how important it is for our equilibrium in human terms...and without that we became unbalanced...than...why we live?
because the others do not understand us..
Could be people with lots of cientific knowledge, but because nobody is perfect, also thouse very intelligent ones, miss in understanding the simple things of live...what money could not pay. To give the best of ourselves to everybody.
Helena
PS Sometimens I think i leave in another planet. perhaps Marte...
@ Helena
Thank you for this open debate that allows us to better inform us of what our friends think researchers RG
Suicide is a way to hate his own that surround us and who love us. If all human beings on this planet are subject to external aggression (heartbreak, loss of a loved one or the other) who commit suicide will live this planet. Fortunately they exist men and women in physical or other conditions or struggling to live their wisdom or their faith. This reminds me of the quote from Victor Hugo
"Those who live are those who fight."
It is a wrong doing. It is a lack of courage to deal with the challenges and complexities of life. Challenges and complexities are the true beauty of life.
Suicide Prevention --- How to Help Someone who is Suicidal
Suicide prevention starts with recognizing the warning signs and taking them seriously.
Major warning signs for suicide include talking about killing or harming oneself, talking or writing a lot about death or dying, and seeking out things that could be used in a suicide attempt, such as weapons and drugs. These signals are even more dangerous if the person has a mood disorder such as depression or bipolar disorder, suffers from alcohol dependence, has previously attempted suicide, or has a family history of suicide.
http://www.helpguide.org/articles/suicide-prevention/suicide-prevention-helping-someone-who-is-suicidal.htm
This is very scary statistics on suicide and its trends."The World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates that each year approximately one million people die from suicide, which represents a global mortality rate of 16 people per 100,000 or one death every 40 seconds. It is predicted that by 2020 the rate of death will increase to one every 20 seconds." Will prevention play its role?!

Don't let the person remain in isolation, if you know one has suicidal tendency.
Ljubomir has placed the link to the Befrienders http://www.befrienders.org/. They do their best to provide emotional support to prevent suicide worldwide. They listen to and help people without judging them. For us who are very busy, the least we can do is to support them financially.
