Regarding my opinion on unpaid doctorates, I oppose the idea. Unpaid means "worthless." I believe that inclusiveness will further lower standards and spoil the job market for academic teachers (further declines in earnings due to the high demand for jobs, a decline in the prestige of the profession, etc.). In Poland, higher education has already been damaged this way, as anyone can enroll in free higher education after graduating (university has become the next level of secondary education), and the large number of students translates into a decline in the quality of education. Employers today distrust formal qualifications; they prefer a craftsman/master/specialist/practitioner over someone with a degree who can't do anything. In Poland, there's talk of education leading to unemployment.

I believe it's a great concept of offering free PhDs as it is both ambitious and inspiring, as it confronts the significant financial and institutional barriers within academia. By removing these obstacles, it could provide opportunities for talented individuals with limited means and, if effectively designed, help make advanced research more accessible and inclusive.
