While I was a referee, I came across a study where 50 theses were examined according to their subjects, years and methods. I have done a similar preliminary study in the previous periods. However, I am still not sure about his method. Some consider it as a descriptive method, some call it qualitative research case study, some say quantitative research screening? Which one is more suitable?
It sounds like a form of content analysis, where you are systematically coding a set of data so that you can compare the counts of those codes.

If it is a literature review, it makes sense to organize data according to subjects and chronology. It is very common in historiography and other social sciences.
Dear Morgan, Cerado and Sousa thank you for your answers, it is like content analysis but I am not sure that it is a case study. I think there is a statistical definition here, yes, maybe this can be said if we were analyzing the data in the studies again. But we only do content analysis in such studies. On the one hand, we only give numbers, and in this respect, it is a quantitative study. Actually, we scan the studies, but on the other hand, we do the coding while scanning the studies. It is very confusing.
Every piece of qualitative research is a case study of something. So the key thing is whether you use case study methods, which involve detailed, in-depth analyses of each case.

This research was carried out with the case study approach , one of the qualitative research methods. Document analysis was used as a data collection method in the study, and content analysis was used as a data analysis technique.
All content analysis has to being with a definition of the content to be covered, so saying that the data was collected via "document analysis" does not add anything.
Para analisar artigos e teses com coerência é necessário delimitar período para que se possa alcançar um objetivo de pesquisa. A metodologia de análise depende desse objetivo. Se existe apenas objetivo de mostrar o que há pode ser feito um mapeamento (procedimento de apresentação da coleta de dados) para apresentar o Estado do Conhecimento. No entanto, se desejar obter explicitações específicas terá de analisar com cuidado alguns momentos dessas publicações. Poderá eleger uma metodologia de análise de dados que permita uma abordagem de emergências desses dados. Ou seja, algo que possibilite a análise trabalho a trabalho e após, discorrer sobre as contribuições que esses oferecem no coletivo dessas publicações. Por exemplo: o que será que se pode dizer dos artigos publicados na década tal sobre determinada temática? Para isso indicaria a Análise Textual Discursiva com apoio de um software para possibilitar a análise de um maior número de trabalhos.
