In Iraq, the admission procedure at universities is controlled by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research that uses mainly the “Baccalauréat” examination score (final exam in secondary school) to distribute students on colleges and study fields.
The students are allowed to give their preferences (50 choices for the name of colleges and academic institutions they want to study arranged from more desired to less desired), but at the end their “Baccalauréat” examination score will determine the college and they usually end up getting enrolled in a less desired college.
On the other hand this college, that the student got accepted in, will apply the same procedure to distribute the students on departments within that college! For example, if a student got accepted at the college of engineering at one of the Iraqi universities but his “Baccalauréat” examination score is not enough to allow him/her to study Computer Engineering (the study field that he/she may prefere more), the college will take his less desired choice that could be mechanical or chemical Engineering to be the his/her field of study for the next four years of his/her life.
What do you think about such a procedure to enrol students at universities?
Almost the same thing happens in Algerian Universities with a slight difference about the sub-field the student might get oriented towards. The latter does not happen in the first year, it rather takes place on the second , third or fourth year depending on the cycle and the kind of course. At other times it will be a matter of making a more specific choice at the Master level.
Like in Iraq, they use the scores of the Baccalaureate to orient students before they get admitted to university and they use the achievements' scores at university to admit them to sub-fields within the same branch.
I Believe that their should be pre-entry tests before being admitted to the university program the student wants to take even if they do not have the right averages. The later would help the student, either follow an academic training he/she likes or not regret what he will be doing instead of was on the top of his list and be more realistic and accept that he does not have the prerequisites to be admitted to such course though he/she likes it.
Some people may argue that they should not take another test before getting admitted to university, but I think that's only for people who had certain averages in the subjects essential to the university degree they want to follow despite the fact that they did not have the minimum required overall Baccalaureate exam.

Usually, good exam results indicate high interest in the topics and the information may be useful in guiding students to choose research topics. However, there are many other factors related to good exam performance -- hardworking, spotting questions, etc.
Use it, but not alone ; suggest the topics but discuss with the students.
I am of the opinion that as much as exam results give universities an idea as to the areas that students will perform in best, it should be the student that determines the area of study as opposed to results.
There is a need to establish that the basics are in place (Language and Arithmetic) to ensure that the student is able to access the material successfully and has a relatively stable foundation on which to build. Good results in these areas should provide universities with sufficient reassurance that no matter what the students decides to study, they have the tools to succeed.
Much is based on personal interests, aptitude and motivation.
The teachers and the students of administrative and believe that is necessari a test a the end of course, for measure n number. For theis is more her intelligent.
The scores tell the students where they are good and not so good at, it helps in predicting what suits them, however it should not be a sole determinant in choosing their field of study. The child's passion and interest should also be given weight in deciding what to pursue.

e Greece
Greek students are attending private tuition classes to prepare for these exams. The economical burden for Greek families is high. Some public school teachers are seeking additional income by providing private tuition to students (hopefully not the students of their school).
One of the problems of this system is that one you get in a course, say a course for a degree in medicine, there is now way out of it. The brighter student who got the best grades in the University entrance exams, have not option to select a different course, say if they find out during the second year of their studies that the do not enjoy working with blood.
Perhaps some adjustment towards to system in other counties would reduce this problem. I remember that in the UK student tutors could help students change their degree course and even change University.
In any event students should know that in real life we frequently have to prove our abilities and skills even in simple tasks (e.g obtain a driving license) our dedication our goals can serve in this direction.
