Myth one: Architecture is just architecture.
Myth two: Architecture is not architecture.
Myth three: Building a building is research.

thanks for the challenging questions - I was not aware of the report. I myself am not an architect, but a philosopher, interested in and therefore teaching the Aesthetics of Architecture.
Here are my intuitive answers to your questions about the myths of archtiecture:
1.) Obviously architecture is NOT just architecture. It is the particular art form that has a lot to do with our daily life - so it has an unparalleled social or even socio-political significance.
2.) I disagree with the second myth, as well. SO I agree, that architecture should become itslef, an autonomous field of knowledge and practice - and I would stress the importance of this second aspect of it.
3.) Building a building is in itself as 2.) shows, building, which means that in itself it is not yet research - even if it provides the raw material for reasearch.
This is my view, and I am interested in your and other commenters§ views onthem.
