Cardiomagnyl included two active material: acetylsalicylic acid 75 mg and magnesium hydroxide 15.2 mg. Part of the cardiomagnyl - magnesium hydroxide protect the gastrointestinal mucosa against acetylsalicylic acid.

Many chemical modifications of aspirin have been developed in the past with a view to reduce the GI intolerance of the drug. The otherapeutic objective is the same in the case of Cardiomagnil as well. However, there has been no significant clinical impact with such formulations. In this context, we need to appreciate the fact that gastric intolerance induced by aspirin arises due to two factors:
1. Local irritation induced by the drug.
2. Inhibition of prostaglandins which have a "gastric mucosal protective" role.
Therefore, it is not surprising that aspirin and other NSAIDs which inhibit prostaglandins interfere with the maintenance of normal gastrointestinal physiology and function. It is also possible that enhanced generation of lipoxygenase products contributes to NSAID-induced ulcerogenicity.
Since the issue is rather complex, pharmaceutical manipulations of aspirin are unlikely to offer any significant therapeutic benefits.

Previously, the cardiomagnil contained two active substances. I wrote about this when asked a question. Now the manufacturer of the cardiomagnil has taken magnesium to the auxiliary substances. Apparently because there is no evidence base for magnesium.
