All bacteria detected in the tilapia cultures were putative pathogens in human. The pathogenic bacteria infecting tilapia include Aeromonas spp., Pseudomonas spp., Streptococcus spp., Vibrio spp., Enterococcus spp., Micrococcus spp., Staphylococcus spp., Plesiomonas spp., Moraxellaceae, and Enterobacteriaceae.

Thank you for your presence in this important discussion that affects the aquatic biodiversity (Tilapia diversities) globally. I just read that a vaccine against Tilapia Lake Virus has been invented by Eran Bacarach and Avi Eldar. The vaccine comprises an attenuated strain of Tilapia Lake Virus for protecting the fishes agianst the viral attack.

You might like to participate in a “Responding to Emerging Diseases: TiLV Diagnostics & Epidemiology” Special Session, at the November 8-12, 2018 World Aquatic Veterinary Conference (Island of St. Kitts in the Caribbean).

This Special Session will bring leading experts from many counties who will cover TiLV mortality, morbidity and clinical signs, diagnostics, surveillance programs, responses in different countries, and will end with a panel discussion on “Future Approaches for TiLV Prevention, Control & Eradication Programs”. We also intend to use TiLV as one of the case examples during the Biosecurity Workshop that will be part of the Conference. Dr. Arni Mathiesen (FAO Assistant Director-General of Fisheries and Aquaculture) will be one of our Keynote speakers, and we hope OIE staff and/or members of the OIE aquatic animal commission will accept our invitation to participate.

We will continue to accept oral (or poster) presentation abstracts, as we hope to finalize speakers for this session in early August (see https://conferences.wavma.org/events/2018-WAVMA-Conference/Abstract-Submission for instructions).

Unfortunately, we are unable to cover speaker travel or accommodation expenses. However, we will provide speakers with General Session discounted registrations (that will include the Reception and Banquet), and we might be able to provide free registration in special circumstances. You may like to consider bringing family member, as St. Kitts is also wonderful location for family vacations.
